Career Services

At the Kogod School of Business, we want the best career outcomes for our students, and we provide the resources to prepare them to successfully manage their career in a global business environment. Through a tailored approach to career services, we support students as they change jobs, move up in their organizations, or simply expand their range of available opportunities.

The Kogod career services team has a history of helping students develop the skills they need for upward movement and career progression long after graduation.

Personalized Feedback

Students need to look at their careers as an evolving journey, not as a series of disconnected jobs. Kogod addresses individual needs depending on where students are in their job search. Career advisors provide individualized support to help students move forward. Students improve their networking skills and learn to better market themselves as they advance, switch careers, or find their next job.

This support includes:

  • providing feedback on résumés, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles
  • analyzing professional accomplishments
  • preparing for interviews and conducting mock interviews

Career Engagement Resource Hub

During the program and after graduation, Kogod provides Business@American students with access to a suite of online tools to chart their career course and evaluate and negotiate job offers.

With the Career Engagement Resource Hub, students have 24/7 access to a variety of development courses and resources. To prepare students for the job application process, we offer resources such as sample questions and tips, using interview scenarios in which job applicants create and defend business models on the spot. Students can also download and access professional development courses and lectures, job search resources, and job application support documents for résumés and cover letters.

Students will also hone their career development skills while taking part in MBA immersions or analytics capstone courses by participating in face-to-face networking and career programming.

Career software and systems available to students 24/7 include:

  • Handshake: Update your profile in our jobs/internship portal, where you can search for opportunities, be directly recruited by employers, review upcoming events, and schedule career advising appointments. Additional resources include our résumé template and guide.
  • VMock: After utilizing the résumé template and guide, you can upload your résumé into VMock to receive personalized feedback on formatting, impact, and competencies.
  • Big Interview: Prep for virtual and in-person interviews with general, industry, and competency-based questions using this dynamic mock interview tool. The site also provides video and written curriculum on how to prepare for interviews, negotiations, and your first 90 days in a position.
  • CareerShift: Aggregate jobs posted on individual company websites and job boards, and search by salary range and location. Find contact information and access in-depth information about companies.
  • GoinGlobal: Review career guides for countries and cities across the globe, search for international jobs and internships, and access a database of domestic companies that have provided sponsorship.
  • Vault: This library contains helpful guides to different industries, job roles, and career education. Vault posts jobs for partner employers to their preferred universities. Vault's guides include accounting, finance, and marketing, among others.
  • Kogod MBA LinkedIn Group: Network with other students and alumni and share job opportunities.
